MOONDROP HORIZON Headphone Available

by Xin Yu on Jul 07, 2025

For years, MOONDROP has charted the unexplored frontiers of HiFi audio – from the boundary-breaking Aria’s meteoric rise as the gateway to high-fidelity sound, to professional over-ear headphones that redefined the studio. Today, they turn the page and introduce the Horizon – a revolutionary addition to MOONDROP's headphone lineup!

The Horizon represents a new benchmark in MOONDROP's professional over-ear headphones lineup. It leverages cutting-edge technology and a completely new structural design to achieve ultra-low distortion and high energy conversion efficiency that surpasses its predecessors.

Unlike planar headphones, the Horizon utilizes a dynamic driver that theoretically achieves higher efficiency through systematic engineering, thereby reducing the driving threshold. Additionally, its lightweight design enhances the listening experience, allowing users to enjoy high-resolution, low-distortion HiFi sound quality across a broader range of use cases.

The Horizon features MOONDROP’s latest generation of high-performance 50mm ULT dynamic driver. After two years of extensive research, development, and optimization, we have significantly improved the dynamic range, reduced distortion, and expanded the bandwidth, achieving leading levels compared to previous products.

The effective magnetic flux density in the magnetic gap reaches an impressive 1.85T. Utilizing Comsol, a large-scale finite element simulation system, we’ve been able to overcome the limitations of traditional experimentation. This allows us to conduct numerous simulations and optimizations on the magnetic circuit and structure of the driver, enhancing the dynamic driver performance to the fullest extent within current technological capabilities.

This dynamic driver incorporates two sets of N55 Nd magnets, each with a natural flux exceeding 1.6T. Through advanced magnetic circuit optimization design, we've further enhanced the magnetic gap flux density to 1.85T, while ensuring uniformity across the entire magnetic gap.

To achieve treble extension in the diaphragm of a 50mm large-sized driver, it is essential to balance rigidity and damping. After extensive simulation calculations of material characteristics and over ten optimization experiments with diaphragm samples, we have ultimately selected a diaphragm material that fulfills the requirements for long stroke, full frequency response, and low nonlinearity.

PEN material, commonly used in traditional flagship headphone dynamic drivers, offers excellent rigidity and good damping characteristics for the dome. The titanium plating process enhances the surface sound speed, further reducing split vibrations.

The liquid silica gel suspension differs from traditional methods, requiring ultra-thin materials to be direct-injection molded using high-precision molds. Compared to standard suspensions, it provides higher reliability at larger amplitudes, and its supporting and damping characteristics are improved through double-layer composite technology.

To create a wider soundstage and ensure complete auricle coupling for an enhanced listening experience, the Horizon features a newly designed large-angle driver inclined structure. This design allows sound waves radiated by the driver to travel a more complete path, arriving from the oblique front. This not only facilitates auricle coupling but also promotes natural diffusion at various angles through a high sound transmission structure.

As a result, the Horizon offers a wider soundstage and a more natural timbre compared to traditional dynamic headphones.

The frequency response characteristics of Horizon align with the VDSF standard, thanks to the newly designed 50mm ULT dynamic driver. With a free-field f0 as low as 80Hz, it delivers sub-bass performance that is rare in open dynamic driver headphones, while also providing smooth high-frequency responses typical of larger dynamic drivers. This results in punchy dynamics and a laid-back sound profile.

Thanks to the innovative driver structure and diaphragm material used in the brand-new 50mm ULT dynamic driver, the Horizon headphones achieve ultra-low nonlinear distortion, making them stand out among dynamic driver headphones. This design allows for clearer and more accurate reproduction of sound details.

With its high-performance magnetic circuit, even a large composite diaphragm can be easily driven. The Horizon can be powered by an integrated sound card from a computer or a portable device, making it suitable for gaming. When connected to a powerful desktop amplifier, it can unlock even greater performance capabilities.

The Horizon includes the widely used and reliable dual 3.5mm interchangeable cable that allows users to easily replace cables to accommodate various usage scenarios, and comes with a 4.4mm balanced cable that features a four-strand arrangement, made from high-quality 6N purity copper provided by FURUKAWA. The parallel arrangement structure is designed to minimize interference and ensure optimal signal transmission quality.
